Single Files: Favorite places to take a date
The fall is my absolute favorite time of the year. I love watching the leaves change colors, smelling the Anaheim Chiles roasting on the Mesa and planning my Halloween costume. These small things make fall lovely, and I look forward to them every year.
As August fades into September, and September into October, people find themselves spending more time indoors to escape the Colorado autumn chill. Hanging out at a local bar or coffee shop is one of the best ways to spend a nippy fall night. And these venues provide singles an opportunity to meet a new crowd.
I am looking forward to spending more time at my favorite locals, but I'm not really sure how the singles scene will fare this fall. The summer of single has been a dry and barren one, but I am looking forward to seeing what fruits autumn will bring. Regardless of your relationship status, following are some of my favorite haunts to either bring or find a date.
One of my favorite bars in Pueblo is the Cock & Bull Tavern. I love the dark ambience and the British theme always makes me feel at home. The crowd ranges from young to old, and I've met quite a few really interesting people there. Also, the Cock & Bull is well suited for big groups of people, so it's always fun to take a date there to meet friends. Also, the bar has plenty of board games in case you find yourself on a date with too many awkward silences.
I also enjoy going on dates at the Downtown Bar because in addition to the dark ambience (which, like the Cock & Bull, offers a nice change of pace from the usual brightly lit Pueblo bars), it also provides as a great space for more intimate conversations. Plus, there is always great art on the walls to look at, and art conversation can always be a fun way to break the ice. On the other hand, the DTB also has loads of live music shows, so if you're stuck in the single rut, you can always go there alone and people watch.
One aspect of bigger city-living I really miss is the numerous clubs one can hit any night of the week. I love to dance, and I love a man who loves to dance with me. The only decent dancing joint I've found in Pueblo is Club 101, though it can be hit or miss. I've been there when the DJ was playing some great old school hip-hop, but I've also heard the DJ change from one bad song to another every 30 seconds.
Nevertheless, you can sit in the bar area and chat with your date if the DJ isn't playing any good jams that night. The women are usually scantily clad, and the guys are usually on the prowl, so it's a singles paradise.
Pueblo also offers several great options for those of us who would rather sit and chat at a quiet café than shout over a noisy bar. Coffee houses like The Loft, Wireworks, The Daily Grind and Solar Roast are very pleasurable places to meet for a date. Cafes are also great places for singles to meet because nothing looks more enticing than a cute guy or gal cozying up to a good book while sipping a steaming drink.
So, when you find yourself alone on a Saturday night and you want to get out and meet someone new, try getting out on the town; you never know who you might find out there....
