On Stage: Vaginas, Dead Guys and Pirates

The Gypsy House
How about two great shows for the price of one, and all of the proceeds benefit Pueblo's Y.W.C.A.? Sounds good, right? The Gypsy House is Pueblo’s newest theater company, but they already are making waves in the Pueblo theater community.
Most theater companies during their first year just try to not make fools of themselves. But this group of hot young thespians is taking on global issues. This show is part of a nationwide campaign called 'V-Day' that raises money and awareness about women's issues and is dedicated to ending violence against women worldwide. The show includes an all-female talent show and hilarious stand-up comedy.
If you’re someone who has always liked vaginas and want to do more to support them, this show is for you. Because of the nature of the production it might not be for the little ones, however the show would probably be very empowering to young women, and is in no way demeaning.
The Impossible Players
You’re having lunch in a quiet restaurant. A quiet man (Gordon) at the table next to you has a cell phone that won’t stop ringing. He can’t answer it because, well… he’s kind of dead. Next, a frustrated patron (Jean) picks up the phone and answers the incessant ringing. So begins this thrilling, comedic mystery. We follow along clue after clue as Jean, played by Kelley Adams, tries to wrap up the loose ends of a dead man’s life.
She will learn that Gordon has (had?) a frostily aristocratic mother, an estranged wife, a secret lover, a companionless brother and an unsavory line of work.
Directed by Steve Adams this play also includes the one and only filmmaker and actor Charley McMullen as Dwight. Other cast members include Impy veterans Thor Cameron and K.D. Johnson. Two new faces to the Imps are also cast: Christina Haney and Cherie Giltner. Due to some questionable material, I would give this a PG-13 rating. Also, because of the caliber of the lead actors and the underlying romantic theme of this play, I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a fun date.
Damon Runyon Repertory
This February a local theater company will take a bold Wild West look at one of the greatest, funniest and smartest musicals of all time. Arthur Sullivan and W. S. Gilbert first began working with one another in December 1871 in London, co-directing and co-writing the play Thespis.
After that it was one success after another. But of all their work, The Pirates of Penzance is my favorite, with only H.M.S. Pinafore offering any competition for the top slot.
Director Sean P. Briggs will offer a Wild West interpretation of the classic opera. Including Bryar Dewar and Jarad Padilla, this play will also feature a group of actors from the theater’s children’s program.
If you are someone who loves musicals or have young ones at home and are looking for a fun night for the whole family, this play is for you.
