InsideOut: After the election

In Pueblo, the local elections have come and gone for 2011. This election had me wondering more and more about the elected officials that represent me, as a gay woman. There are a number of allies that have been elected, and they do a great job of standing up and voting for the benefit of the gay community. I applaud that.

Inside OUT: Coming Out

October 2011

inside-out2October 10th is National Coming Out Day. It's the day of the year that is designated for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer folk to step out of the closet and proclaim their sexual identity to the world. It's a day of celebration and liberation, or at least it should be. The day was designed to help give people the courage to open up to family, friends and loved ones about who they really are.

Gay marriage is the main event when it comes to the battle for civil rights these days in America. It's a  hot topic during Presidential candidate debates, religious debates etc. I agree that gay marriage is a central right we must fight for in the new civil rights movement, as a valid marriage license protects couples against myriad issues.

InsideOut: Double Standards Hit Home

A "double standard," by definition is "the unjust application of different sets of principles for similar situations." For example, the old ideas that if a man is promiscuous it's okay, but if a woman is, she's a whore; teenage boys can stay out late, but teenage girls need to have a curfew; it's okay for women to cry because they are emotional beings, but if a man cries he's a sissy... I could go on and on.

Anti-Bully Bill

June 2011


There is some great news when it comes to the safety of our youth in Colorado public schools.  With a stroke of a pen, Governor Hickenlooper signed House Bill-1254 at the end of the 2011 legislative session, making Colorado the 12th state in America to pass an anti-bullying bill.
