hautemessAs I write this, we are in the middle of Fashion Week. I have to tell you, fashion week widely misunderstood. First, during fall we’re looking at spring fashion and in February when we should be thinking of spring, we’re actually looking at fall looks. And also, most haute couture is very avante-garde and is not meant to be seen as practical. Lush draping, translucent chiffon, overly exaggerated make-up and sleep- and sustenance-deprived models become wire hangers for the looks we’re peering at with lust saying, “ooh, I can’t stand it, I want to rip that look off her body right now!” Yes, folks, this is fashion week in all its glory.

Can you believe summer is over? Yes, I'm serious. It's over. For many of us who remember the "classic" school year of yesteryear, summer vacation began at the end of May and we started school in September completely refreshed, tanned, vacationed and ready for a new school year. Now, I'm completely puzzled. With kids getting out of school in June and going back as early as the first week of August, it seems as though summer is gone.

The Royal Wedding: Beatrice! Pippa! Kate! Oh, my!

HauteMess-0611I never thought I'd wake-up for a wedding at three in the morning! But as much as I don't believe you have to "declare" your love publicly, and though I despise public displays of affection, it was, after all, a royal wedding, and a British one at that. We knew there wouldn't be crying or French kissing. So with the snogging nowhere in sight, I humbly took a seat on my read couch, clutching my zebra blanket and a clean bistro-style cup of coffee to tune into the wedding of the year.
